A PILE OF WORK!!
We decided that if we put some dirt around the foundation of the house, that we might get less water in the basement when it rains. But how much is enough?
Well we bought a 10 yard truck full--that's 14 tons! And half that amount would have been enough. Half a truck load would have been only $30 less--but I did not think about the amount of work the extra 5 yards (or more) would cost.
It is "fill dirt" but is really close to good top soil. It has a few roots, rocks and the occasional suprise (like a golf ball)--and a fair amount of clay, which is just what we needed for the foundation project. So we are happy with the soil. it is just that there will be more work than intended!

We know about dirt and moving it around we do it all the time. I hope it works so water doesn't get in your basement.
It's good to work on these type of projects in the summer when the weather is nice, because you wouldn't want to do it in the winter.
We are almost done working on the pump house we still have to build a cover on the outside to cover the pipes coming out of the pump house.
