Time to begin a new school year! We began a couple of weeks ago to work on our rooms, put up bulletin boards and begin working on lesson plans. Cheryl is pictured holding an information packet she designed for the parents of her second graders--you can see she is a bit tired. Her purple cast has slowed her down for many tasks, so the whole before-school-starts ritual has been harder for her. The cast comes off Sept. 8--then therapy to get that thumb working again!
The front of my room looks a bit different with a new media desk and ceiling projector. There are speakers in the corners of the room, and I will have the capacity to show videos and DVDs as well as my powerpoint presentations on the screen--I won't have to push an AV cart around any more. We now have four rooms set up like this.
I also took a shot of the computer lab that is equipped this year with brand new commercial quality Dell Computers. Besides computer class and the keyboarding class, 1st thru 8th graders will be using these machines for Spanish. Each of the elementary classes now have three computers, and they are all loaded with programs to teach proper fingering of the keyboard. It is a very different situation than when I learned the keyboard on a manual typwriter as a 10th grader!
Enrollment in the school is slightly above last year, though the Jr-Sr High School is down, as the enrollment dip for the classes a few years ago has finally made its way through the school. We will have only 7 seniors ( there were 6 in that class last year). The rest of the school is strong, enrollment wise (1 1/2 First grades, 1 1/2 Second grades, 2 Third grades, etc.). We are praying for a fantastic year!
